ACHIEVEMENTS




  • The achievements of the Ghana Poultry Network are many. These include:
  • Provides technical assistance for women in the Afram Plains District in the Eastern Region and Sefwi Wiaso District in the Western Region in small-scale commercial poultry production and to improve the village poultry. The projects are being sponsored by Recerca and Cooperazione, an Italian NGO working in Ghana
  • Conducts annual vaccination of village chicken against Newcastle disease to reduce high mortalities caused by the disease in Kwaekese and Agyata in the Afram Plains District as pilot villages.
  • Collaborates with the Danish Network for Smallholder Poultry Development, Heifer Project International, Ricerca and Cooperazione, Ghana-Denmark Community Programme and other NGOs in the improvement of productivity of the village chicken
  • Forms School Poultry Network Clubs in Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary Schools in the Afram Plains District and other parts of the country
  • Members participated in the 10th conference of the Association of Institutions of Tropical Veterinary Medicine (AITVM) in Copenhagen from 24-27 August, 2001
  • Participated in the 2nd Workshop on Smallholder Poultry Projects in West Africa in Burkina Faso at Tenkodogo from 24-28th September, 2002
  • Organised a district rural poultry workshop in Donkokrom from 1-3rd November, 2001 for women and school children
  • Organised a national workshop on rural poultry for NGOs, research institutions and individuals working in Ghana in Accra in February, 2002
  • Participated in the 3rd Workshop on Smallholder Poultry Projects in West Africa in Benin at in Benin at Possotome from 8-11th September 2003.
  • Provides training to men and women in smallholder poultry production in Aworapataa near Techiman in Brong Ahafo Region. The Project is being sponsored by Heifer Project International
  • Provides training to women keeping local fowls in Yua in the Kassena-Nankani District in the Upper East Region.
